For all the public high schools across the country, Palos Verdes Peninsula High School ranked in the top 200 of all schools and Palos Verdes High School ranked in the top 500. The first question I asked when I saw this report, was, “…well that’s great, but top 500 and top 200 out of what number?…” Did you know that according to U.S. Department of Education, there are over 36,000 high schools in the United States?

I guess by any measure, the high schools in  Palos Verdes are pretty darn good. I was 12 years old when my family moved from Kansas City to Palos Verdes.  My folks were derided for moving to the “boonies”; most of the Greek community were located in the late 60s in South Torrance and Redondo Beach around St Katherine Church were my dad was going to be the new priest.  My folks had heard how great the schools were here and I’m so glad they made the move.  I met a lot of great friends, had a great public education which prepared me well for my double major in Economics and Psychology at UCLA … Class of ’79, Go Bruins!  … now for my USC friends, don’t fret … USC’s real estate division hires me to sell homes bequeathed to them … Fight On! … and my daughter has her Masters from USC by way of Cal…Go Bears!…

So as you can see, for 2 generations, the Palos Verdes School system has done great work! Now, how can you help continue this strong trend in quality schools?  One way is to donate to the Palos Verdes Education Foundation.  They do tremendous work to fill the gaps in funding.  I strongly urge you to support them
