In 1953 a nursery school was started by a small group of parents. To fund-raise for this fledgling school, in 1955, a parent came up with the idea of putting together a local telephone directory. We here on the Peninsula all know what I’m writing about; you’ve seen the directory appear, for free, on your doorstep or in bag wrapped around your front door handle about this time every year. This year’s directory marks the 60th edition of the “Palos Verdes Peninsula Directory” It represents 60 years this little nursery school, the Palos Verdes Hills Nursery School providing the community with not only quality nursery school education but 60 years of providing the community a wonderful resource in the form of a “hometown directory”.
Several things make this Directory so special, of course that it’s a 60th anniversary, it’s connection to the “small town” appeal of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and too while so many paper directories are going out of business in this internet age, this one is going strong. There’s a lot of work that goes into making the Directory; take a look at this time lapse video to watch these volunteers hard at it!
