Skip to contentFor many decades the Palos Verdes communities have been a magnet for parents seeking the best public school system for their kids. I know it was for mine back in 1968 when we moved here from Kansas City, Kansas. My Dad, a priest in the Greek Orthodox Church was transferred here and I remember parishioners asking why my folks wanted to “move to the boonies”. It was because of the schools. So how good are Palos Verdes schools in 2019?
An equally important question is how do you rank them? What’s the best way to tell how good are Palos Verdes schools?
“Unlike traditional school rankings, which rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance, Niche’s rankings provide a real-life view of what it’s like to attend a given school,” the company said in a news release.
Niche has reported that nearly every school, from K-12th grade, ranks at A+. Of the 11,428 students in the Palos Verdes Peninsula School District, 72 percent are at least “proficient” in math and 78% at least “proficient” in reading. The student/teacher ratio is on average 25:1.
Here are some of the Palos Verdes school rankings
What goes into Niche’s analysis? Niche studies comments from current students, alumni and parents. They study campus life, sports options, diversity, gifted student programs, special needs programs and other extracurricular activities as well as test scores and academic performance.
“Parents and students need more than test-score data,” Luke Skurman, CEO at Niche, said in the news release. “They need to understand what it’s really like to attend a school before they start the application or registration process.”
When it comes to buying any of the Palos Verdes homes for sale, of course the old real estate adage of “… Location, Location, Location ….” continues to hold true. I’ve found that many of my buying clients base their preferred purchase location on what Palos Verdes schools they want their kids to attend. Therefore, I’ve come up with a tool that lets you EASILY search for homes within each individual school’s boundary. Want to see how it works? How to search for homes within a school boundary; video and details.
My personal opinion as to why the schools are great is that, for the most part, parent care. No better evidence of this care is the Peninsula Education Foundation.
